Full Description:
Monica Bellucci is a rose that understands the power of contrast. Its flowers are glamorous without appearing excessive, dramatic without losing elegance and immediately memorable from the moment the first petals begin to open.
Created by the House of Meilland Richardier and named in honour of Monica Bellucci, this hybrid tea rose reflects the confidence and sophistication associated with its celebrated name. Its beauty does not depend on a single colour, but on the striking relationship between two very different sides of every petal.
The inner surface reveals a sumptuous dark pink, while the reverse is cream-white. As the flowers unfold, the pale outer petals frame the richer centre, creating depth, movement and a naturally theatrical effect that changes with every stage of opening.
Its fragrance is equally distinctive. Strong notes of clove and star anise give the perfume a warm, spicy character, setting Monica Bellucci apart from roses with more conventional sweet or fruity scents. Planted near a path, terrace or entrance, it offers an experience that is as much about fragrance as appearance.
The plant develops an upright, balanced habit and reaches approximately 80 to 100 cm in height, with a spread of around 30 to 70 cm. It flowers repeatedly from May until the first frost, producing successive blooms that maintain its strong visual presence throughout the season.
Monica Bellucci works beautifully as an individual focal point, in rose beds or within mixed borders. Its distinctive colouring becomes even more effective when paired with cream, blush, burgundy or deep purple companion plants.
The large, elegant flowers are particularly well suited to cutting. Once placed in a vase, they can remain attractive for approximately 7 to 10 days, bringing their dramatic colouring and spicy fragrance indoors.
Monica Bellucci is not a rose designed to disappear quietly into a planting scheme. It gives the garden a signature: confident, sensual and refined, with flowers that hold attention long after the first impression.

Frequently asked questions:
What makes Monica Bellucci different from other pink roses?
Each petal has two contrasting sides: a dark pink interior and a cream-white reverse. As the flower opens, both colours remain visible, creating a dramatic layered effect that is immediately recognisable.
How strong is the fragrance?
The fragrance is strong and distinctive, with warm notes of clove and star anise. It is a good choice for gardeners who prefer a spicy perfume rather than a purely sweet rose scent.
Does Monica Bellucci flower repeatedly?
Yes. It produces successive flushes from May until the first frost, providing colour and fragrance throughout much of the growing season.
Is it suitable for bouquets?
Yes. Its large blooms, elegant form and unusual colouring make it especially effective in floral arrangements. The cut flowers generally remain attractive for approximately 7 to 10 days.
Where should I plant Monica Bellucci?
Choose a sunny position where the flowers can be admired at close range. Near a terrace, entrance or path, both the contrasting petals and the spicy fragrance can be enjoyed regularly.
Is it suitable for a smaller garden?
Yes. Its mature height of approximately 80 to 100 cm gives it a strong presence without making it excessively large. It can work well as a single focal rose or within a compact border.
Should I plant it alone or in a group?
One plant creates a distinctive focal point. Several planted together produce a stronger display and make the contrast between the cream-white outer petals and dark pink centres even more dramatic.
What colours combine well with Monica Bellucci?
Cream, white and blush companion plants create an elegant palette, while burgundy, plum and deep purple provide a richer, more theatrical contrast.
