Full Description:

Some climbing roses arrive quietly. Baby Romantica arrives as though it has been invited to host the season's first garden celebration. The moment its first flowers open, walls, pergolas and arches seem to come alive, and suddenly every nearby plant becomes part of the scene.

Created by Meilland, Baby Romantica proves that a climber does not need great size to make a lasting impression. Its nostalgic blooms are packed with around 80 delicately arranged petals, forming elegant, ranunculus-like flowers that seem almost sculpted by hand.

The colour changes beautifully as the flowers mature, blending rich golden yellow with warm ochre tones that glow in both bright sunshine and softer evening light. Each bloom measures around 8 cm across and appears generously throughout the season.

Flowering repeatedly from late spring until the first frost, Baby Romantica develops into a graceful climber approximately 160–190 cm tall. Its healthy foliage and outstanding disease resistance make it an easy variety to grow, rewarding even less experienced gardeners with abundant displays year after year.

Whether climbing over an arch, softening a fence or framing the entrance to your garden, Baby Romantica creates an atmosphere that feels warm, welcoming and effortlessly romantic. It may be called "Baby", but its presence is anything but small.

Frequently Asked Questions →

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is it called Baby Romantica?
Although more compact than many climbing roses, Baby Romantica produces exceptionally full, nostalgic blooms with all the charm of the larger Romantica collection.

Does Baby Romantica flower repeatedly?
Yes. It blooms continuously in successive flushes from late spring until the first frost, keeping walls and garden structures colourful throughout the season.

Is Baby Romantica fragrant?
No. This variety is grown primarily for its exceptionally full flowers, nostalgic form and warm golden colouring rather than fragrance.

How tall does Baby Romantica grow?
It reaches approximately 160–190 cm, making it ideal for smaller arches, fences, pillars and pergolas where a very vigorous climber would be too large.

Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes. Its excellent disease resistance, repeat flowering and manageable growth make it one of the easier climbing roses to grow successfully.

Where should I plant Baby Romantica?
Choose a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil and provide a suitable support such as an arch, trellis, pillar or fence.

Does it climb by itself?
Like all climbing roses, it benefits from having its stems tied to a support. Training the stems horizontally encourages even more flowering shoots.

Can Baby Romantica be grown in a container?
Yes. A large, deep container with excellent drainage and a climbing support allows it to perform well on terraces and patios.

How should I prune it?
During the first years, focus on training the main stems. Once established, shorten flowering side shoots in late winter and remove any dead or damaged wood.

Which plants combine well with Baby Romantica?
Lavender, nepeta, white clematis, blue salvias and soft silver foliage beautifully complement its warm golden flowers.

What does the rose look like on delivery?
Its appearance depends on the delivery season and natural stage of growth. For examples and explanations, see What roses look like on delivery →.

What should I do after planting?
Plant in full sun, water thoroughly and guide the stems onto their support as they grow. For detailed instructions, visit our complete planting guide →.
