Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑

Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.

We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.

What about colder regions and winter frost?

Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Emily Brontë® is a David Austin Shrub Rose with distinctive soft pink flowers whose smaller central petals deepen to rich apricot around deep-set stamens. Its strong Tea fragrance develops into Old Rose, with fresh hints of lemon and grapefruit, while healthy upright growth and repeat flowering give it a refined but dependable garden presence.

Choose it if you want a rose that combines literary character with unusual flower detail and a fragrance that changes beautifully as the bloom matures.

Full description:

Emily Brontë® reveals its beauty in layers. The flowers open soft pink, while the smaller petals at the centre deepen towards rich apricot and surround deep-set stamens, creating a distinctive, carefully composed bloom.

The fragrance changes just as beautifully. It begins as a strong Tea scent, becomes more reminiscent of Old Rose and carries delicious hints of lemon and grapefruit.

Introduced by David Austin in 2018, Emily Brontë® forms a bushy shrub with strong, healthy, upright growth. At maturity it reaches approximately 125 cm in height and 110 cm in width.

It repeat flowers and is suitable for borders, pots and containers, rose hedges and positions in either full sun or partial shade.

The Brontë Society asked David Austin to name the rose in celebration of the bicentenary of Emily Brontë's birth. The association feels especially fitting for a flower whose softness, depth and character reveal themselves gradually.
