Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑

Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.

We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.

What about colder regions and winter frost?

Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Fill your garden with colour and perfume with Émilien Guillot, a distinctive French shrub rose whose large, quartered flowers open in vivid orange before softening through coral and finally towards gentler pink tones. Reaching approximately 80 cm, it combines very full blooms, powerful fruity-spicy fragrance and strong repeat flowering from May until November.

Choose it if you want a rose that feels genuinely individual: bold in colour, rich in fragrance and constantly changing as each flower matures.

Full description:

Some roses arrive quietly. Émilien Guillot arrives like a burst of late-afternoon light—warm, vivid and impossible to ignore. Its flowers begin in a striking orange-vermilion shade, then soften gradually through coral and towards a gentler pink as they mature, so the shrub can carry several tones at once.

Created by the historic French house Guillot and named in honour of one of the heirs of the Guillot dynasty, this variety belongs to the Générosa® collection. Its flowers are very full and quartered, with around 60–80 petals and a diameter of approximately 9 cm, creating the romantic structure of an old rose with a much more contemporary colour.

Fragrance is one of its most memorable qualities. The perfume combines classic rose with ripe apricot and a spicy touch of white pepper, giving Émilien Guillot a scent that feels warm, fruity and distinctive rather than simply sweet.

Flowering begins in May and continues repeatedly until November, with a generous first flush followed by further blooms through the season. The flowers stand out beautifully against large, glossy dark-green foliage, giving the shrub a rich, polished appearance even between flowering waves.

Émilien Guillot forms a rounded shrub around 80 cm tall, making it easy to use as a specimen, in borders, in mixed planting or in a large decorative container. Its flowers also have good vase performance, so the same colour and fragrance that animate the garden can be enjoyed indoors.

This is a rose for gardeners who do not want something predictable. Its colour evolves, its fragrance has personality, and every flowering brings a new balance between intensity and softness.

Frequently asked questions →

Frequently asked questions:

What colour are Émilien Guillot's flowers?
The flowers open in a vivid orange to vermilion shade, then soften through coral and finally towards gentler pink tones as they age. This changing colour is one of the variety's most distinctive qualities.

Do all the flowers look the same?
Not exactly. Because the colour changes as each bloom matures, one plant can display stronger orange flowers alongside softer coral and pink blooms at the same time.

How large are the flowers?
The blooms measure approximately 9 cm and are very full, with around 60–80 petals arranged in a quartered, old-fashioned form.

How fragrant is Émilien Guillot?
Very fragrant. Strong perfume is one of the main reasons to choose this variety.

What does Émilien Guillot smell like?
Its perfume combines classic rose with ripe apricot and a distinctive spicy note of white pepper, creating a warm and fruity fragrance with more complexity than a simple sweet rose scent.

Does Émilien Guillot flower repeatedly?
Yes. It is a repeat-flowering rose, with a generous first display followed by further flowers throughout the season from May until November.

How tall does Émilien Guillot grow?
It typically reaches approximately 80 cm in height, making it substantial enough to create impact while remaining easy to place in most gardens.

Is Émilien Guillot suitable for a smaller garden?
Yes. Its compact, rounded habit makes it suitable for smaller borders and prominent specimen planting without requiring the space of a large shrub or climber.

Can Émilien Guillot be grown in a container?
Yes. Use a substantial container with excellent drainage and provide regular watering and feeding during active growth.

Where should I plant Émilien Guillot?
Choose a sunny position where both its colour and fragrance can be appreciated at close range. It works especially well near a terrace, entrance, garden seat or at the front or middle of a mixed border.

Can Émilien Guillot be used as a specimen rose?
Yes. Its vivid colour and rounded growth give it enough presence to stand alone as a focal point, particularly against dark-green or neutral planting.

Is Émilien Guillot suitable for cut flowers?
Yes. Its strong colour and distinctive fragrance make it particularly attractive in bouquets and floral arrangements.

Which plants combine well with Émilien Guillot?
Blue salvia, lavender, nepeta and purple geraniums contrast beautifully with its orange and coral tones. Cream flowers, silver foliage and dark-leaved perennials create a more refined composition.

Who was Émilien Guillot?
The rose was dedicated to one of the heirs of the Guillot family, one of France's historic rose-growing dynasties.

What makes Émilien Guillot different from other orange roses?
It combines changing orange-to-coral colouring, deeply quartered flowers, rich apricot-and-white-pepper fragrance and compact rounded growth in one distinctive French shrub rose.

What does the rose look like on delivery?
Its appearance depends on the delivery season and natural stage of growth. For examples and explanations, see What roses look like on delivery →.
