Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.

We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.

What about colder regions and winter frost?

Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Surround yourself with the quiet luxury of a rose inspired by one of history's greatest painters. Full description:

Some paintings never lose their power to captivate. Velasquez follows the same philosophy, transforming the garden into a living gallery where every flower feels like a carefully composed masterpiece. Named after the great Spanish Baroque painter, this remarkable rose celebrates beauty through colour, depth and timeless elegance.

Created by the House of Meilland Richardier, Velasquez produces impressive blooms measuring around 13 cm across, each composed of approximately 44 petals. Their rich deep purple colouring gives the flowers extraordinary depth, while their powerful classic rose fragrance adds another dimension to the experience, delighting both the eye and the senses.

Flowering repeatedly from May until the first frost, Velasquez develops into a vigorous, healthy shrub reaching between 90 and 150 cm in height. Its attractive foliage and excellent disease resistance ensure that the plant remains beautiful throughout the growing season, whether planted individually, in borders or as part of a larger rose collection.

Winner of First Prize at the Alterarosa Show, Velasquez also excels as a cut flower. Its elegant blooms remain fresh in a vase for approximately 7–10 days, allowing you to enjoy this living work of art long after it has been brought indoors.
