Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑

Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.

We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.

What about colder regions and winter frost?

Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

The Poet's Wife® is a David Austin Shrub Rose with rich yellow flowers that gradually soften in colour, a strong fruity fragrance with a hint of lemon, and reliable repeat flowering. Its rounded form, arching branches and glossy foliage create a graceful, naturally balanced shrub.

Choose it if you want warm colour and a fragrance that becomes sweeter and richer as each flower matures.

Full description:

Some roses catch the eye first and reveal their fragrance later. The Poet's Wife® does both at once. Its rich yellow flowers bring warmth to the garden, gradually becoming paler as they mature.

The flower form is particularly attractive: a neat outer ring of petals surrounds a more informal centre, giving each bloom structure without stiffness.

Its strong, wonderfully rich fruity fragrance carries a hint of lemon and becomes noticeably sweeter and stronger with age. It is a scent that rewards repeated visits rather than a single first impression.

Introduced by David Austin in 2014, The Poet's Wife® forms a bushy, nicely rounded shrub with graceful arching branches and rather glossy foliage. At maturity it reaches about 110 cm in both height and width.

It repeat flowers through the season and works especially well in borders, for cutting, in pots and containers, and in positions with partial shade.
