Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑
Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.
We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.
What about colder regions and winter frost?
Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.
Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Full description:
Westerland® brings warmth to the garden almost instantly. Its flowers open in luminous copper-orange tones that can shift subtly with weather and maturity, creating a lively display rather than one fixed shade.
Introduced by W. Kordes’ Söhne in 1969, Westerland® has remained a classic for decades thanks to its abundant flowering, robust growth, strong fragrance and outstanding winter hardiness.
The semi-double flowers measure approximately 10–12 cm and are carried on an upright shrub. Their strong fragrance is one of the variety’s defining qualities and makes Westerland® particularly rewarding near paths, terraces and places where people pass close by.
Repeat flowering from June until frost keeps the colour returning through the season. At maturity, the shrub reaches approximately 150 cm in height and 80 cm in width.
Kordes rates its overall disease resistance as high and describes it as extremely winter-hardy, while its current profile also flags higher susceptibility to black spot, mildew and rust. Good airflow, balanced feeding and attentive foliage care are therefore worthwhile in conditions with strong disease pressure. Its upright habit makes it useful as a specimen, in groups, in informal hedges or as a colourful background shrub.
