Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑

Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.

We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.

What about colder regions and winter frost?

Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Port Sunlight® is a David Austin Shrub Rose with rich apricot, flat quartered rosettes, a medium Tea fragrance and reliable repeat flowering. Its upright, vigorous habit reaches about 140 cm in height and width, while young bronzy-red stems and foliage mature to deep green.

Choose it if you want a generous apricot shrub rose that brings warmth, fragrance and an established English-garden atmosphere to borders, hedges or a large container.

Full description:

Port Sunlight® brings the warmth of apricot into the garden in a particularly refined way. Its medium-large flowers form flat, quartered rosettes in rich apricot, paling softly towards the outer petals as they mature.

Introduced by David Austin in 2007, it was named after the model village of Port Sunlight in the Wirral, where a beautiful garden of English roses forms part of the landscape and history of the place.

The fragrance is a lovely medium-strength Tea scent: traditional, warm and easy to enjoy near a path, terrace, window or favourite seating area.

Port Sunlight® forms a vigorous, fairly upright shrub of approximately 140 × 140 cm. Its young stems and foliage emerge bronzy red before maturing to dark green, adding colour and depth even between flowering flushes.

It repeat-flowers from late spring into early winter, grows in full sun or partial shade and is useful in borders, rose hedges, large containers and for cutting. The RHS has recognised Port Sunlight® with the Award of Garden Merit.
