Bare-root roses are available to order now, with deliveries starting on 26 October. Close ↑
Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.
We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.
What about colder regions and winter frost?
Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.
Famous Roses provides a 180-day establishment guarantee for bare-root roses.

Full description:
The Mill on the Floss® combines elegance with warmth. Its flowers appear in large clusters, each bloom opening as a neat, deeply cupped flower with a small boss of golden stamens. Together they create a display that feels abundant without ever appearing excessive.
The colouring evolves gently as the flowers mature. The blooms begin in soft medium pink shades touched with lilac-pink tones, gradually becoming lighter as they open. Fine carmine edges around the petals add definition and give each flower an extra layer of charm.
Introduced by David Austin in 2018 under the varietal name Austulliver and named after George Eliot’s celebrated novel, this rose seems to capture something of the story’s emotional depth and enduring appeal. Like the book itself, it reveals its qualities gradually. What first appears delicate becomes increasingly memorable through grace, character and a quiet sense of refinement.
Its medium-strong fruity fragrance adds another dimension to the experience. Carried on gently arching stems above glossy foliage, the flowers seem almost to float in the garden. A healthy, bushy shrub, The Mill on the Floss® reaches about 140 cm high and 125 cm wide and repeat flowers through the season.
