Bare-root roses are lifted only after they enter dormancy and the shoots have fully matured and hardened. Lifting them too early can stress the plants and leave young growth insufficiently mature.
We do not force the season simply to ship earlier. We wait for the right point in the plant’s natural cycle, so you receive a strong, well-matured rose ready for planting and the season ahead.
What about colder regions and winter frost?
Waiting until the shoots have fully matured helps the plants enter winter better prepared for low temperatures.

Olivia Rose is one of the newer creations from David Austin and, despite its youth, already feels like a classic. Introduced in England in 2014, it brings together many of the qualities rose lovers return to again and again: abundant flowering, refined beauty and a natural elegance that never feels forced.
If Famous Roses were a glossy magazine where roses gave interviews, shared their favourite gardens and revealed their secrets of beauty, Olivia Rose would almost certainly appear on the cover. Not because it asks to be noticed, but because it naturally attracts attention. We would choose it for its refined flowers, for the elegance of its delicate fragrance and for the quiet confidence of a rose that seems to do everything beautifully without ever trying too hard.
Its tender flowers open generously and repeatedly throughout the season, each bloom composed of around 90 petals arranged in soft layers of classic English charm.
