Full description:
Introduced by David Austin in 1986, Gertrude Jekyll® is widely regarded as one of the finest fragrant English roses ever created. Its large, fully double flowers, composed of around 80 petals, open in a rich, vibrant pink that immediately draws the eye and brings warmth and romance to the garden.
The blooms appear repeatedly throughout the season and are accompanied by one of the most admired fragrances in the rose world. Rich, deep and unmistakably old-rose in character, the perfume is easy to notice near terraces, garden paths and seating areas, making this variety as much an experience as a visual display.
At Famous Roses, Gertrude Jekyll® has long been one of those varieties we recommend to gardeners who want fragrance to be a central part of their garden. It is not simply a rose that looks beautiful in photographs. It is a rose that rewards every walk through the garden with colour, scent and presence.
Its name honours Gertrude Jekyll, one of Britain's most influential garden designers, and the variety reflects her appreciation for beauty, harmony and timeless garden style. You can feel David Austin's intention in every bloom: to combine the charm of old roses with the repeat flowering and reliability expected from modern garden roses.
Whether planted as a feature in a mixed border, in a dedicated rose bed or grown for cutting, Gertrude Jekyll® remains one of the great classics of the English rose world. The flowers are also excellent for bouquets and floral arrangements, bringing their fragrance indoors for several days.
